Island Life: Photographs from the Martin Parr Foundation
Dafydd Jones
Born 1956, near Doncaster
‘I’ve been inspired to photograph people, eccentricity, the art world, fashion and parties. In 1981 I was a prizewinner in a photography competition run by the Sunday Times magazine with a set of pictures of the “Bright Young Things.”
Jones achieved overnight success with his prize-winning photographs of upper class undergraduates at Oxford with a job at Tatler society magazine. When the tone became less satirical under new editorship he left for New York, returning in the 1990s to photograph for Vanity Fair, snapping the new ‘Cool Britannia’ mix of celebrity, artists, newspaper editors and politicians.
