Chloe Dewe-Mathews
Born London, 1982
‘People see the river as the antidote to the city’
Dewe Mathews takes a conceptual, psychogeographical approach to documentary: for Caspian (2018) she travelled on foot around the perimeter of the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Russia; for Shot at Dawn (2014) she photographed at dawn at the sites in France and Belgium where 1000 French, Belgian and British soldiers in World War I had been executed by the authorities having been found guilty of cowardice or desertion. In the Thames Log series Dewe-Mathews traced the river from source to sea, recording people she saw along the way.
