Island Life: Photographs from the Martin Parr Foundation

Sian Davey

Born 1964, Brighton

Davey studied at Bath Academy of Fine Art, then Brighton, after which she became a psychotherapist before taking up photography in 2014. Her practice in counselling and interest in the family informs her photographic practice. In Looking for Alice, she photographed  her young daughter who has Down’s syndrome. Martha, her older stepdaughter, assisted with Looking for Alice, and afterwards asked wistfully ‘Why don’t you photograph me any more?’ This led directly to the project Martha. Both bodies of work featured in Taylor Wessing Photography prizes.
